SCHEME  OF  TEST: 

i)            The Test will consist of two papers. All two papers will consist of only objective type questions in two separate sessions as under:

Conditions of Eligibility:

i) Master degree with 55% marks (for General) & 50% marks for OBC, SC, ST/Persons with disability (PWD)

ii) Final year appearing students are also eligible for exam. 

Age limit & Relaxation:

i) Junior Research Fellowship: Male-30 yrs. and female & candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/OBC (Non-creamy layer)-35 years.

ii) There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor.

Paper-I shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. 

Paper-II shall consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. 

The upper age limit for appearing in JRF has also been raised by two years, i.e. from the existing upper age limit of 28 years to 30 years (the relaxation as earlier will remain same). The candidates who desire to appear in the test may see the detailed notification available on the website http://cbsenet.nic.in  from 01st February, 2018. The candidates are required to apply online from 6th March, 2018. The last date for applying online is 5th April, 2018 and fee can be paid up to 06th April, 2018. 

All the questions of Paper – II will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus. 

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I and Paper-II on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet. 

PROCEDURE & CRITERIA FOR DECLARATION OF RESULT: 

This will comprise of following steps: 

Step I: The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks in aggregate of all papers i.e. Paper-I and Paper-II for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor as given below:

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have appeared in both papers and cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the two papers secured by such candidates. 

Step III: The number of slots for eligibility for Assistant Professor only will be equal to the 6%of the candidates appeared in all two papers of NET. The subject-wise and category-wise distribution of slots will be calculated by using the similar formula as used for calculation slots of JRF. 

Step IV: A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III by using the formula mentioned below. 

No. of slots under General (UR)category for JRF in a subject =No. of candidates who have opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor in that subject × No. of slots available under General (UR) category ÷ Total No. of General (UR) candidates who have opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

Similar formula will be used for OBC/SC/ST category and all the subjects. 

It may be noted that the above qualifying criteria decided by UGC/CBSE is final and binding. 

PROVISIONS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (INCLUDING VISUALLY CHALLENGED CANDIDATES) HAVING 40% OR MORE DISABILITY. 

i)                  Twenty five minutes compensatory time shall be provided for Paper-I and Paper-II separately. 

ii)                In no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a scribe to mark the answers for them. However, Low Vision candidates (minimum 40% impairment) will be allowed to write the examination with the help of a scribe. There is no provision of Test Booklets in Braille for visually impaired candidates. 

iii)             The candidates with disability should fill in the percentages and type of disability correctly in the online application form of NET. The type of disabilities are mentioned as below: 

a)    blindness and low vision

b)   deaf and hard of hearing

c)    locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy

d)   autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness;

e)    Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d) including deaf-blindness in the posts identified for each disabilities. 

iv)             An amount of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. One thousand only) will be paid to the scribe by the Centre Superintendent on the day of examination for all papers. 

There will be no negative marking.
